Sugar Street building
saved following Wednesday
fire
The McArthur Fire Department
responded to a structure
fire January 21 at
approximately 1 p.m. Three
engines rolled on scene is
less than five minutes to
the 103 South Sugar Street
location.
Smoke was coming from the
roof and attic area when
firefighters arrived. Two
women were inside the
building at the time, but no
injuries were reported.
The structure is owned by
John Simmons and is used by
Friendship House for
providing fellowship and
socialization services.
According to Friendship
House staff, a light fixture
made a popping noise, then
fell from the ceiling with
smoke pouring out of the
hole in the ceiling. The
cause of the fire appeared
to be electrical in nature,
and was extinguished by the
McArthur Fire Department,
saving the building.
